Signage Pieterpad – Groningen

Partner(s): Stichting Pieterpad

Maintaining the Pieterpad markings in the city of Groningen was for years a real struggle. In Groningen’s sticker jungle, the trail signs were hard to spot, especially when the municipal cleaning service had once again scrubbed all the poles – something that understandably happens quite frequently.

In consultation with the municipality, the Pieterpad Foundation transferred the trail markings onto special panels – made of BioPanel – which have been mounted on traffic sign poles and lampposts. This should hopefully put an end to the problems caused by Groningen’s sticker jungle, allowing Pieterpad hikers to finally find their way without any extra help.

A total of 77 signposts were produced for the Pieterpad Foundation.

This reduced CO₂ emissions by about 24 kg compared to aluminium signposts.

About BioPanel

BioPanel is a sustainable, circular and biodegradable plastic sheet material that is suitable for many different applications. BioPanel consists of 100% biobased materials with components such as industrial hemp and a thermoplastic biopolymer of lactic acid (PLA). These are rapidly renewable vegetable raw materials, which can largely be produced locally. The production of BioPanel results in up to 99% less CO2 emissions compared to conventional materials. In addition, the use of BioPanel prevents residual waste.
